Beth Moore Quotes on Love: 10 Memorable Statements from the Christian Evangelist

For Christian evangelist Beth Moore, one of the most important parts of love is the feeling of security it engenders in a person – man or woman. Here are 10 memorable quotes from the homespun Bible teacher:

She bases one of her books, “So Long, Insecurity: You’ve Been a Bad Friend,” on the notion of love being founded in security. Here are three quotes from the book:

1. “A man is infinitely more attracted to a secure woman than to an emotional wreck who insists he could complete her.”

2. “I have had the blessing and curse of being married to a very honest man.”

3. “I don’t know about you, but I need someone who will love me when I hate myself. And yes, someone who will love me again and again until I kiss this terrestrial sod good-bye.”

4. In a Valentine’s Day post on her Living Proof Ministries blog about what she believes and what she doesn’t about love, she talks about sticking with a relationship past the point of reason, if necessary: “I believe that good marriages are wed of soft hearts and hard heads: a tenderness to love and be loved and a tenacity too bone-headed to quit.”

5. But at the same time, Moore added on the blog, you need to learn what to hold on to and what to let go: “I believe the most important synonym of the word love in a marriage is forgiveness. I believe in working it through, crying it through, even fighting it through, then I believe in putting it behind you. For keeps. Love resists the inundating urge to bring back up the old with every new offense.”

6. Love doesn’t mean perpetual perfection, she says on her blog. It requires work, she said: “I do not believe in perpetuating the myth of happily-ever-after in marriage. I believe in teaching our adolescents that we can have love-ever-after, devotion-ever-after, hope-ever-after, and faith-ever-after but only if we don’t faint-ever-after.”

7. Little things lead to big things, and it’s not wise to skip, she wrote on her blog: “I do not believe in marrying a man who won’t date you. I don’t believe in making love to a man who won’t kiss you.”

8. Don’t leave God out, she reminds us in “A Woman and her God: Life-Enriching Messages”: “Life works most perfectly when a reciprocal love relationship is in place between man and God.”

9. After all, Moore said in the book, God’s love is unconditional: “No matter who you are or what kind of baggage you carry with you, no matter what you look like or feel like, no matter what you do or don’t do, God loves you just as you are right now. You don’t have to get your act together, lose ten pounds, run a marathon, write a best-selling book, or raise perfect children. You are an extraordinary woman in His sight right now.”

10. Offering up a promotional quote for “Love and War: Finding the Marriage You’ve Dreamed Of” by John and Stasi Elderidge, Moore wrote: “The moment we decide to throw more energy into fighting for our mate than with him, the crack of a fist on the enemy's jaw splits the ears of angels.”
