Avodart for Prostate: 7 Reviews From Consumers

By    |   Wednesday, 08 Jun 2016 05:37 PM

Avodart is prescribed to treat benign prostatic hyperplasia or BPH, an enlarged prostate. Consumer reviews usually deal with possible side effects and the drug’s effectiveness in treating urinary problems that develop in men with BPH.

Dutasteride, the generic name for Avodart, helps improve urinary flow, according to Drugs.com. Avodart prevents testosterone from converting to dihydrotestosterone (DHT), which contributes to an enlarged prostate.

Here are seven Avodart reviews.

SPECIAL: The One Thing You Should Do for Your Prostate Every Morning

1. Avodart reviews sometimes mention the drug’s ability to lower the risk of prostate cancer. Prostate-specific antigen, or PSA, tests determine the levels of the PSA protein in the prostate gland. The level is elevated in men with prostate cancer.

A reviewer at RxList says his PSA level was reduced by more than half after six months of using Avodart and Flomax, sometimes used with Avodart. The “reduction in sex drive and erectile problems are tough to deal with,” the reviewer wrote. “But overall the problems with urination have disappeared.”

2. “Began using after being on Flomax,” another reviewer says. “Very satisfied with the product.”

3. “I’ve taken Avodart for several years,” a man writes on the Avodart Reviews site for WebMD. “It sometimes worked better than other times. The side effects (erectile dysfunction) are terrible.” He decided to replace the drug with a prostate supplement and says his function is back to normal.

4. “It has shrunk my enlarged prostate so I no longer have discomfort, and I urinate a little less often at night,” a reviewer commented at Drugs.com. “Most importantly, I am able to postpone prostate reduction surgery.” He says there are sexual side effects.

5. Another reviewer says: “Don’t have to urinate as often. Have regrown almost a full head of hair. Libido and ejaculation are still in working order.”

6. A 59-year-old man writes in the Avodart reviews section for Everyday Health: “Within a year, my prostate has shrunk some, enabling me to better empty my bladder and with somewhat stronger flow.” He notes that erectile function improves with proper rest and the use of erectile dysfunction medication.

7. “I’ve had no (side) effects from this drug, sexual or otherwise,” says another reviewer, adding that “my prostate is getting smaller after two years and my last PSA reading was 1.93, very low!”
