A trip to New York City offers numerous opportunities for sightseeing, and those seeking a dash of adventure in their travel can find options, too.

Of course, some might say that battling New York traffic and even a cab ride are plenty enough adventure, but many people like at least a few adrenalin rushes when they travel.

Although New York City isn’t the type of adventure travel option you’d find hiking to Machu Picchu in Peru, you can find these six adventurous things to do — and more, if you do your homework.

1. Stunt Training: The Big Apple features a stunt-training school which offerS open classes in "high falls" every week or one-day stunt training. Hollywood Stunts NYC will teach  attendees how to fall from table heights to a high platform or even how to fall (safely) down a flight of stairs. The Drivers East Stunt Driving School will give you the intense skills to do some of the car tricks that stunt drivers perform in movies.

2. Ride along with the NYPD: For New York residents, you can fill out an online application ahead of time and schedule a two- to four-hour shift with the New York Police Department. Visiting law enforcement or government officials from outside the area will be considered for the program, too, according to the the NYPD’s website.

3. Whitewater rafting: Obviously, you won’t be doing this in downtown New York City, but it’s just a day trip away. Urban Sherpa Travel has pickup locations in Times Square and Union Square, taking visitors to the Lehigh River in the Poconos.

4. Snowshoe Adventures: If you’re in the Big Apple when snow is on the ground, you can join Living Adventure to snowshoe the outdoors in areas nearby. "The variety of trails looping across the rugged landscape is a major part of the appeal of Harriman-Bear Mountain State Park system," the tour company said of one advertised adventure. "Covering nearly 52,000 acres, this network of practically infinite trail combinations is unmatched in the area surrounding metropolitan New York."

5. Harriman Park Night Hike: This adventure takes New York City visitors to Harriman Park, where they put on headlamps and take flashlights to hike through moderate climbs in the woods to a campfire and marshmallow roast. Outdoor Connections NYC offers many other outdoor opportunities, including rock climbing, kayaking, and rafting.

6. Sky diving: Just about anywhere in the country, you can take a giant leap out of an airplane with a tandem skydive. But it’s easy to make your first jump (or second or third) with the New York City skyline in the background. Numerous schools, like Skydiving New York City, are in business in and near the Big Apple.
