Question: Does the federal government have the right to utilize your tax dollars to fund organizations whose core values completely differ from your own?
Answer: Absolutely. In fact, just this week it was revealed that Planned Parenthood, the nation’s most prominent abortion provider, received an astounding $336 million in government (both federal and state) grants. But get this: Planned Parenthood took in more than $1 billion last fiscal year, according to its own annual report, for the first time in its history.
It is apparent that there is big money to be made in abortion.
According to the Planned Parenthood Federation of America’s annual report (2006-07), the organization conducted 289,570 abortions, an increase of almost 25,000 abortions over the previous year.
American Life League reports that one in every four abortions in our nation is now conducted at a Planned Parenthood facility. In fact, Planned Parenthood is actually responsible for the deaths of more than 5,500 innocent lives every week. Through the years, more than three million unborn babies have had their lives snuffed out at a Planned Parenthood facility.
It’s a truly shocking statistic.
And yet you and I see our tax dollars annually pouring into this organization that snuffs out more than a quarter of a million precious lives every year, while also pulling in bucket loads of money through its abortion services. Further, the organization frequently promotes promiscuous activity even as we witness increasing numbers of young people becoming infected by sexually transmitted diseases in our nation.
This isn’t government waste; it’s government sacrilege.
I believe it is time for the Planned Parenthood government gravy train to stop!
This week, the Family Research Council’s Tony Perkins told LifeNews.com that while “a majority of Americans oppose taxpayer funding of abortion,” Planned Parenthood continues to receive “more than $300 million in taxpayer funding each year for ‘family planning’ projects that help bolster their abortion trade.” He further noted that the organization will spend $10 million this year to help elect abortion rights candidates.
It doesn’t seem to matter that pro-life Americans are seeing their tax dollars going to Planned Parenthood. But it’s simply not right that our tax dollars are exploited in this way.
