MLK Sports Pavilion Open Overshadows Abortion Clinic

I’m on the road with a “peace and justice tour," while responding to a recent “Macedonian call” to come help answer a pro-life alert on the Mexico border. My team and I are often invited to come over to a community and pray about current events and pressing concerns.

Most recently, we are stopping in El Centro to address a strange dichotomy. There is a disconnect in the community that must be addressed in prayer.

There is a new Planned Parenthood building in El Centro, Calif. Everyone knows that Planned Parenthood is after money, offering abortion and harmful byproducts; and in that process they target the most vulnerable American women and families; Latinos and African-Americans.

Now they are after the women of Mexicali and their babies, because they are easy prey to the lies that they offer "safe, legal and rare" abortions. These women of the community don’t need death care; they need help. Pregnancy care centers, adoption and agape love are available in El Centro. Families just need to know where to look.

I’m on an extended tour to promote peace, justice, and “righteous civil rights.” My book "King Rules" offers solutions to the unrest that is beleaguering our nation and the world. "King Rules” is a gift to our nation and the world, with real life examples from the family of my famous Uncle Martin Luther King about how to overcome the challenges of living in today’s world.

Now the opening of the new Martin Luther King Sports Pavilion and the anticipated opening of a new Planned Parenthood, both in El Centro present a conflict. The Martin Luther King Pavilion offers help for the youth of the community, while the Planned Parenthood facility offers death.

I’m making an intentional word play on the caption of the Martin Luther King Sports Pavilion announcement: “Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Sports Pavillion Opens, Time to Play," from a Dec. 12, 2014, press release. That in and of itself sounds good doesn’t it?

But if we consider that Planned Parenthood is moving in at the same time, I’d say this: The pavilion is open, now it’s time to pray that Planned Parenthood doesn’t move in with its well planned killing machine.

Please don’t allow the leaders in El Centro, or anyone for that matter, whether it’s ISIS, race riots in Ferguson and Baltimore, or anywhere; don’t let anyone use the name and legacy of Uncle Martin Luther King to promote death. He was a man of God.

As to El Centro, they can’t open a gym on one side and a killing mill on the other. That’s not civil rights. That’s a civil wrong. True civil rights begins at conception in the womb and should end with natural death.

While in El Centro, I’ll be discussing her books and praying with members of the local pro-life community. Please pray with us. God bless.

Dr. Alveda C. King grew up in the civil rights movement led by her uncle, Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. She is a pastoral associate and director of African-American outreach for Priests for Life and Gospel of Life Ministries. Her family home in Birmingham, Ala., was bombed, as was her father’s church office in Louisville, Ky. Alveda herself was jailed during the open housing movement. Read more reports from Dr. Alveda C.
