Obama Attacks FreedomWorks, Tea Party in Interview

By    |   Thursday, 30 Sep 2010 11:59 AM

From the FreedomWorks website.

In a recent interview with Rolling Stone magazine, President Barack Obama directly attacks FreedomWorks and the tea party movement while bemoaning the lack of enthusiasm in his own disenchanted Democratic base.

Obama, a politician propped up by well-funded corporate and special interests, had the gall to say that the tea party movement is controlled by "some very traditional, very powerful, special-interest lobbies. I don't think this is a secret. Dick Armey and FreedomWorks, which was one of the first organizational mechanisms to bring Tea Party folks together, are financed by very conservative industries . . ."

I wonder if the president considers Goldman Sachs, Citigroup, JP Morgan Chase, Morgan Stanley and his other top presidential campaign contributors to be some of these "special-interest lobbies."

That's right. Obama received money from banks he would eventually help bailout as a U.S. senator and support as president. Looking down Obama's contributor list it's amusing to find that the U.S. government is also listed in the top 20, with government employees forking over a total of $494,820 to Obama's campaign.

The U.S. government, to use Obama's phrase: a "very traditional, very powerful" group, helped fund Obama's campaign knowing he would grow the size of government and ultimately benefit those same government bureaucrats at the expense of taxpayers.

This is a prime example of the ouroboros, or the snake eating its own tail. Governments and corporations contribute to candidates who will protect their interests against taxpayers and consumers. It's cyclical.

Politicians and special interests sustain themselves at the expense of the rest of us.

For Obama to claim that his agenda is being countered by FreedomWorks and powerful interests, is not only hilariously hypocritical but an absurd sleight to the millions of grassroots activists that make up the decentralized and leaderless tea party movement.
