In my 1997 series “The Ice Man Cometh,” I quoted Dr. George Kaplan, the granddaddy of all global warming skeptics, as saying that the global warming theory could well be "the last stand of an errant scientific ideology."

"Such a hypothesis can be acceptable to some, but the obvious failing of the theory in the face of global catastrophe argues for a more substantial motivation. It would pay to investigate this motivation further to consider whether politics has been responsive to poor science or whether economics and politics have made false tools out of science for narrow interests.

"If the latter is true the manipulation and subversion of the truth-seeking apparatus by political and private interests is, in the present situation, of such extreme malevolence that it ranks as the greatest malfeasance in history. We are headed for a situation where mankind may be forced to confront the question of whether the political mode as we have known it over the past 8,000 years is innately incapable of dealing with serious problems."

We have now seen conclusive evidence of that "manipulation and subversion of the truth-seeking apparatus by political and private interests" and it utterly demolishes any credibility the global warming theory could claim.

When hundreds of files in Britain's Climate Research Unit (CRU) — one of the principal advocates of the global warming theory — were hacked and published on the Internet the true nature of this hoax stood revealed for all the world to see.

Needless to say, this stunning revelation of the global warming advocates’ dishonesty was all but ignored by a media devoted to advancing the theory that the planet is well into the process of being barbecued by Mother Nature. To them, any proof to the contrary must be suppressed.

According to one expert quoted in the Soylent Green Web site, "The hacked e-mails were damning, but the problems they had handling their own data at CRU are a dagger to the heart of the global warming ‘theory.’ There is a large file of comments by a programmer at CRU called HARRY_READ_ME documenting that their data processing and modeling functions were completely out of control.

"They fudged so much that NOTHING that came out of CRU can have ANY believability. If the word can be gotten out on this and understood it is the end of the global warming myth. To base a re-making of the global economy (i.e., cap-and-trade) on disastrously and hopelessly messed up data like this would be insanity."

It's important to note that the U.N.'s International Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) insistence on blaming evil mankind for the alleged warming of the planet is partially based on CRU's claims.

As noted by Powerline "These emails appear to show that, when faced with a legitimate request under Britain's Freedom of Information Act, these global warming alarmists preferred to delete their emails with one another about the crucially important IPCC report — the main basis for the purported "consensus" in favor of anthropogenic [human caused] global warming — rather than allow them to come to light. This is one of many instances in the East Anglia documents where the global warming alarmists act like a gang of co-conspirators rather than respectable scientists."

And there's the rub. Dr. Kaplan was right. The CRU revelations are a stark example of what he called "the manipulation and subversion of the truth seeking apparatus by political and private interests," and it is "of such extreme malevolence that it ranks as the greatest malfeasance in history."

Still pending in the U.S. Senate is the cap and trade bill, a malevolent measure that if enacted would send the economy in a tailspin, export thousands of American jobs abroad and further burden the U.S. taxpayers, all to prevent a crisis that exists solely in the minds of Al Gore and his coterie among the alarmists. Gore, already allegedly already worth a cool $100 million thanks to his global warming scam, stands to become a billionaire if the bill passes.

The CRU revelations should sound the death knell for this bill and the whole the global warming hoax, but it won't. There are too many big bucks yet to be made and jobs to be had by spreading this false alarm. In the meantime, button up your overcoats. The climate is getting cooler.
