Bush to Speak to Rahm's Group

Two months after the midterm elections altered the balance of power in Washington, President Bush has signaled his intention to follow through on his promise to work with the Democrats.

According to the Washington Post's Chris Cillizza, Bush will be a featured speaker at a House Democratic retreat in February.

Democratic caucus chairman Rep. Rahm Emanuel, D-Ill., invited the president to the Kingsmill Resort & Spa in Williamsburg, Va., where the retreat will be held Feb. 1-3. Cillizza reports that Bush's speech is expected to last about an hour.

"The president looks forward to attending, and he believes there are many challenges for the American public right now and that voters expect their elected leaders in Washington to work together," White House spokeswoman Dana Perino told the Post.

A House Democratic leadership aide put a slightly different spin on the situation for the Post, saying: "This is an opportunity for the Democratic leadership to reach out to the president and let him know that we hope he will work with us in changing the direction of the country."
