Pirro Blasts Clinton Viagra Giveaway

The New York prosecutor who said this week that she may challenge Hillary Clinton for her Senate seat next year is blasting a Clinton administration program that gave free Viagra to sex offenders, saying it was tantamount to "state-assisted sexual assault."

"I am outraged," Westchester County District Attorney Jeanine Pirro told Fox News. "Because we all know that level three sex offenders - and my office prosecutes them all the time - are repeat offenders."

Without mentioning Mrs. Clinton or her husband by name, Pirro railed against the government boondoggle, saying, "By paying for their Viagra, it amounts to state- assisted sexual assault."

In May 1998 - during the height of the Monica Lewinsky scandal - the Clinton administration told state officials that it "intended to require their Medicaid programs to pay for medically approved uses of the impotence drug Viagra," according to the New York Times.

The Clinton Viagra giveaway continued unfettered until this week, when New York State officials discovered that nearly 200 convicted sex offenders were using the program to obtain the impotence drug.

Mrs. Clinton's potential challenger said the Viagra program has likely led to further sexual attacks.

"My office has prosecuted cases where pedophiles have used Viagra on children, where 86-year-old pedophiles are using Viagra, so they can continue to molest our children," Pirro told Fox.

"Shame on us for allowing this to happen," she added. "As long as you have been convicted and are now registered as a sexual deviant, you should not be getting this, because it amounts to the government helping you to assault other victims."

In a statement issued earlier this week, Sen. Clinton said she was concerned that the Viagra giveaway "poses safety concerns for the public."

But she declined to acknowledge any responsibility for the blunder, insisting instead that the program had been misused.

"There is no doubt that the news of sexual offenders receiving Viagra under the Medicaid program is deeply disturbing and runs contrary to the purpose of Medicaid, which is to provide health care coverage for uninsured, low-income individuals."

Sen. Clinton said she will "explore legislative options to address this issue."

On Monday, Mrs. Pirro announced she was considering a run for statewide office, including a possible challenge to the top Democrat.
