Giuliani Leads Hillary Clinton in 2008 Poll

A new poll shows former New York Mayor Rudy Giuliani beating Senator Hillary Clinton if the 2008 presidential election were held today.

The nationwide poll was conducted by Canisius College. It surveyed 455 Americans over 18 Sunday through Tuesday. The poll showed the Republican former mayor beating the Democratic senator 54 to 38 percent in a hypothetical battle.

Clinton loses among voters in red states, which is no surprise, but Giuliani breaks even in the blue states.

Like several other recent national polls, the Canisius survey shows a high degree of dissatisfaction with the performance of President Bush. Only 42 percent view him favorably, compared with 55 percent who view him unfavorably.

Still, if a presidential recall election were possible, only 42 percent would vote to fire him while 53 percent would vote to retain him.
