Jack Welch: Cheney May Step Down

President Bush has affirmed and reaffirmed that Vice President Dick Cheney will remain his running mate this year no matter what.

But former General Electric CEO Jack Welch isn't buying it.

"Vice President Dick Cheney may step down to re-elect Bush," Welch told Fox News Channel's Neil Cavuto on Saturday, adding that the VP's head might not be the only one to roll.

"I think it's a characteristic of the Bush crowd not to fire anyone," Welch explained. "But I think that things will change before the election."

When asked point blank if he thought firings were in the works, the influential mogul mused: "Don't use that harsh word, 'fire.' You sound like [Donald] Trump." Instead Welch expects what he referred to as a change in positions.

Welch noted that the war in Iraq is increasingly unpopular with European allies.

"I happened to be in three countries speaking in Denmark, Holland and London," he told Cavuto.

All three, he said, "have just re-enforced the point that they're going to send troops. But in all three places, the leaders are in trouble."

"Unless we get a clarity with what we're doing [in Iraq]," Welch warned, "you can see a massive change in Europe with Berlusconi, Blair and with a bunch of guys going the way of the Spanish prime minister."
