Child Porn Found on Police Computers NewsMax.com WiresCHICAGO – Police Superintendent Terry Hillard has sharply curtailed use of the Internet after downloaded child pornography was found in two of the department's 3,200 computers. No disciplinary action has been taken against any officers or civilian employees as the department conducts an internal investigation. Hillard, a former Marine, ordered most of the computers temporarily disconnected from the Internet on Friday after learning the police Internal Affairs unit was looking into reports of pornography. Hillard said he was "disgusted" but had no reason to believe a porn ring was operating inside the department. "As a police officer, it disturbs me that someone within the Chicago Police Department could be involved in something like this," he said. Sources told Wednesday's Chicago Tribune images of children in suggestive poses were found on computers at a district station on the West Side and at an area headquarters on the far South Side. The Chicago Sun-Times said several pornographic Web sites were found bookmarked on an Area 2 computer last year, including a site with images of adults having sexual relations with children. Security restrictions and monitoring will be increased on the computers but Hillard said officers would still be able to use the Internet to do their jobs. The department is adopting a new policy that will restrict Internet use to officers who have a supervisor’s permission. Filtering software that will block access to 500,000 restricted Web sites was expected to be installed by Friday. It will be able to track use on all 3,200 computers hooked up to the system. Only two computers at each police unit will be linked to the Internet. Hillard said anyone found putting child porn on a police department computer would face prosecution. "It's important to point out that no officer who needs to use the Internet for a work-related purpose will be denied access," he said. "The taxpayers of this city aren't paying us to check on our investments, sports scores or booking travel arrangements on city time. They're paying us to do police work."
