SIDON, Lebanon -- Lebanese Hezbollah guerrillas on Wednesday stormed an Israeli army position in a disputed area on the border between the two countries, according to security sources.
Guerrillas of the Islamic Resistance Movement, Hezbollah's military arm, carried out attacks against six Israeli posts in the Shabaa farms, using light and medium weapons.
The sources said the Muslim attackers succeeded in reaching one of the posts in Rweisat al-Alam where they raised Hezbollah flags. A number of other Israeli positions were hit, and some were seen on fire.
The sources said an Israeli tank was also hit during the attacks. Hezbollah sources claimed that a number of Israeli soldiers were killed or wounded.
Israeli warplanes retaliated by bombarding the oustskirts of Kfar Chouba and Shabaa. They later bombarded the vicinity of Ibl al-Saqi, Kawkaba and Rashya road inside the Lebanese territories.
There was no immediate word on casualties.
Security sources also said Tuesday that Lebanese army forces arrested three Palestinian guerrillas in a car close to the border in south Lebanon with three Katyusha rockets.
The guerrillas admitted that they have fired eight Katyushas into northern Israel on Tuesday night, according to the sources.
Wednesday's arrest raised to 10 the number of Palestinian guerrillas detained by the Army on charges of firing rockets into northern Israel.
Israel has been trying to exert international pressure on Lebanon and on Syria which is the real power broker in Lebanon, to stop the Hezbollah attacks.
