Florida Supreme Court Blocks Vote Certification

The Florida Supreme Court has just ruled that "in order to preserve the status quo," Florida Secretary of State Katherine Harris may not certify the election results Saturday.

Shortly after the ruling, Democrat candidate Al Gore said it was an "important" decision that would help lead to a "fair and accurate" vote count, CNN reported.

There will be a hearing at 2 p.m. Monday with the justices and lawyers from the Bush and Gore campaigns present, state Supreme Court public information officer Craig Waters said.
