Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg has created a new event: a fundraising party for New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie’s re-election.
Zuckerberg, 28, and his wife, Priscilla Chan, invited the Republican governor for a fundraiser at their Palo Alto, Calif. home for Christie’s re-election campaign, BuzzFeed reports.
The pair say they admire Christie for “his leadership on education reform and other issues and look forward to continuing their important work together on behalf of Newark's schoolchildren.”
“Mark and Priscilla are happy to host him at their home to support his reelection," Facebook spokesperson Sarah Feinberg said.
The fundraiser is scheduled for Feb. 13 and guests will include friends and colleagues of Zuckerberg and Chan, the Wall Street Journal reports. Attendees will be able to donate a maximum of $3,800, according to New Jersey law.
The seemingly unlikely friendship began when the social media mogul donated $100 million to Newark public schools. Since then, the governor has worked with Zuckerberg on education issues, according to BuzzFeed.
"They've certainly developed a good working relationship over their mutual interest in education reform," Bill Palatucci, a longtime Christie adviser and fundraiser, told NJ.com.
The party will be the governor’s first trip out-of-state fundraiser in his campaign for reelection. His campaign currently has $2.1 million.
