Disgraced former New York congressman Anthony Weiner and his wife Huma Abedin told People magazine that they want people to know “we’re a normal family,” People magazine
This is the first joint interview the couple has done since Weiner, 47, resigned in shame from Congress in 2011 after he tweeted lewd pictures of himself to a college student. Abedin, 37, who is deputy chief of staff to Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, told the magazine that, “it took a lot of work to get to where we are today, but I want people to know we're a normal family.”
"Anthony has spent every day since [the scandal] trying to be the best dad and husband he can be," she told People. "I'm proud to be married to him."
The New York Post reported that Weiner is eyeing a run for mayor of New York City but he stayed noncommittal on running for office again and told People that he’s “very happy in my present life. The only next dramatic steps I'm planning on are Jordan's first." Jordan is the couple’s 6-month-old son.
The Queens Democrat still has $4.5 million in his campaign war chest. The public match on the $4.5 million expires after the 2013 election.
Since the scandal, Weiner has mostly stayed at home to watch his son.
“I still have regrets,” Weiner told WNYC radio last month, according to the Post. “I paid a very high price . . . I feel great regrets for the people I’ve let down.”
