Those anxiously waiting to purchase tickets Monday morning to the Inaugural Ball and Parade were left disappointed.

Due to an error made by ticket sales company Ticketmaster, the $60 tickets went on sale 12 hours early and sold out, Politico.com reports.

"On Sunday evening, Ticketmaster experienced a technical error that inadvertently caused an email to go out ahead of schedule to people who had signed up for inaugural ticketing information with an invitation to purchase public tickets for The Inaugural Ball and the Inaugural Parade," committee spokeswoman Addie Whisenant said.

Ticketmaster staff sent out an apology email, explaining that the email went out “during testing of our email system,” according to BuzzFeed.

Those signed up for the chance to purchase a ticket tickets were notified via email that tickets would go on sale Monday morning. Then, a second email was sent giving some guests “the opportunity to attend the Inaugural festivities” with links to purchase tickets. Finally, a third email went into inboxes with an apology, explaining that tickets were sold early.

"I was one of the ones who was literally watching my cell phone the entire time for that message saying how and when to buy tickets," Fran Hill told NBC Washington. "I was very disappointed ... It was a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity."
