Many people assume testosterone is a “male” hormone. But both men and women produce testosterone — in the testicles in men and in the adrenal glands in men and women. Smaller amounts of testosterone are also produced in women’s ovaries.

Testosterone production begins early in fetal development and continues throughout life. It helps to build muscle and bone. In fact, it is impossible to build muscle in men and women without adequate amounts of testosterone.

Other functions of testosterone include:

•Decreases blood clotting

•Decreases visceral fat

•Decreases total cholesterol Improves bone density

•Improves glucose control

•Improves libido

•Maintains mental and physical energy

•Improves cardiovascular health

•Prevents neurodegenerative disorders
