The Denver Broncos and the San Francisco 49s have the best chance to end up in the Super Bowl, Pro Football Hall of Famer Fran Tarkenton tells Newsmax.TV.

Tarkenton, who spent a decade in the NFL playing quarterback for the Minnesota Vikings and the New York Giants, said Denver is the team to watch this season.

“Well, right now, the best team in football, after one week, is the San Francisco 49ers,” he said. “Going in, they had the deepest roster, good defense, good offense, a lot of skilled players, a lot of great defensive players and, right now, if I had to pick two teams for the Super Bowl, I’d pick the Denver Broncos and the San Francisco 49ers.

“The Denver Broncos, they went eight and eight, went to the Championship game with Tim Tebow as quarterback, and I love Tim Tebow, but he’s not a quarterback. They’ve got Peyton Manning and they beat Pittsburgh in opening week last week by about two touchdowns and Peyton looks like Peyton. He’s got a better supporting cast than he’s ever had. Denver is the team to watch.”

Tarkenton, also known for his commentary on Monday Night Football, called Tebow a “great young man” but said he’s “not a major league quarterback.”

“He’s a hybrid,” he said. “He played nose guard in high school as a freshman. He’s a big kid. A big, strong kid and he doesn’t have the throwing ability that he needs to have at the professional level and they’ll make him a hybrid type guy in New York and give him five to 10 snaps a week but, and I say this in all respect, he’s got a lot of talent. If you’re ever looking for other areas of interests, whether that’s politics or not, he’d be great in politics or anything he goes in because he’s believable.”

As to the Vikings, a team Tarkenton took the Super Bowl three times only to lose to the Dolphins, Steelers and Raiders, he said they are in a “growing mode.”

“They’ve got a Florida State quarterback there and he’s off to a good start,” he said. “But they don’t have the talent to really compete on a championship level. They’re in a tough division and the Bears and the Detroit Lions and Green Bay will probably dominate that division.”
