Tea party favorite Rep. Steve Stockman on Monday took to Twitter
to declare his personal preference for lubricating guns: "liberal tears."
The Texas Republican, who announced earlier this month that he'd take on Sen. John Cornyn in the GOP Senate primary in Texas,
tweeted a picture of a gun with a spray can that read "Liberal Tears." The text with the picture read: "The best gun lubricant around."
The outspoken gun rights advocate has focused on the issue as he goes up against Cornyn in the March primary.
While Cornyn won the endorsement
of the National Rifle Association, Stockman has snagged the endorsement of the Gun Owners of America, which praised him for his introduction in the House of pro-gun rights bills, including legislation pushing for a ban on federal gun-free zones around schools and military bases.
During his one-term stint in the House after the 1994 elections, Stockman declared the federal siege on the Branch Davidian cult compound near Waco a pretext for government confiscation of weapons from other Americans, the Dallas Morning News
Earlier this year, after winning a House seat in a Houston-area district, he raffled off an assault rifle and brought rocker and NRA board member Ted Nugent to the State of the Union speech to protest President Barack Obama's push for restrictions after the Newtown, Ct., school massacre.
Nugent has said he won't pick sides in the primary battle between Stockman and Cornyn, the newspaper said.
The refocus on gun rights comes after the Federal Election Commission said it was questioning four donations Stockman received after he introduced a bill that would allow an American Indian tribe in East Texas to open a casino.
According to the Houston Chronicle,
the FEC sent Stockman a letter on Dec. 20 asking about allegedly "excessive donations" from casino backers.
