Santorum to Newsmax: Don't Drop Rush from AFN

By Martin Gould and Ashley Martella   |   Thursday, 08 Mar 2012 08:08 PM

Presidential candidate Rick Santorum attacked a plan to force Rush Limbaugh off American Forces Network during an exclusive interview with Newsmax.TV.

The proposal from Democratic Sen. Carl Levin “doesn’t make any sense to me,” Santorum said.

The six-term Michigan senator who chairs the Upper Chamber’s Armed Forces Committee said AFN should drop Limbaugh in the wake of the talkshow host’s depiction of student Sandra Fluke as a “slut” and a “prostitute.”

Limbaugh also said Fluke, who had told a congressional committee why she believed health insurance should cover contraceptives, should post tapes of herself having sex to the Internet so the public could see if it was money well spent.

“It’s amazing how all these issues tend to get politicized after a while,” said Santorum. “The Armed Services Network is trying to provide entertainment value to the men and women in uniform. Rush Limbaugh is the most popular radio talkshow host in America, no-one’s even close.

“Rush Limbaugh clearly made a mistake. He apologized for the mistake and now we are going to try to deny the men and women in uniform, serving our country overseas, a program that they listen to on a regular basis when they’re home?

“That certainly doesn’t make any sense to me.”
