Rick Santorum’s sick daughter is doing fine after her hospitalization earlier this year, the Republican presidential candidate tells Newsmax.TV. But the little girl’s father is not doing so well.

Three-year-old Bella, the youngest of his seven children, gave him the cold that she contracted, Santorum said in the exclusive interview, and now he can’t shake it.

The former Pennsylvania senator quit the campaign trail for a few days in late January when Bella, who suffers from a rare genetic disorder, was taken ill with what was reported at the time as pneumonia.

Santorum described the illness as a cold, and said Bella is now doing well. “I just wish her dad was doing a little better.”

“She’s been healthy for three weeks, so that will tell you something.

“It’s sad, I was home just a couple of days ago, but I wasn’t feeling well so I couldn’t even hold her and hug her. I was feeling so bad I was going through withdrawals. But she is doing great.”
