Christopher Ruddy’s Perspective: The debate has ended and Mitt Romney has won.

Romney won on both points and style.

The term "points" refers to who won the debate arguments on a technical basis.

Romney was prepared. He knew his facts. Sure he lacked details, as Obama so well noted.

But Romney offered a powerful and damning critique of the President's record over the past four years.

Obama apparently had failed to prepare adequate defenses for his shortcomings, such as the record job loss, sluggish economic growth, the withering costs of Obamacare, and so on.

Meanwhile, Romney explained he was focused on offering the public his philosophy and principles, ones he will seek to implement.

Romney also won on style. We know style often trumps substance, a fact brought home by the famous Kennedy-Nixon debates of 1960.

Romney came across as a serious executive, the man in charge, who was aggressive but not impolite or obnoxious.

Meanwhile, Obama seemed unprepared. He was defensive and failed to adequately explain his own administration's shortcomings.

He also failed, amazingly, to counterpunch against Romney.

This debate may well turn out to be the major turning point for Mitt Romney in his quest for the presidency.

His performance tonight was better than anything we have seen before.
