RNC Ad Hits Obama Over Big Bird, Binders, Bayonets

By Newsmax Wires   |

The Republican National Committee (RNC) has launched a new Internet ad against President Barack Obama, painting him as a hypocrite over nasty campaigning.

The ad combines snippets of an Obama campaign speech in 2008 in which he promises to refrain from name-calling with examples from this election in which he does just that.

"Big Bird. Binders. Bayonets," the ad’s text reads at one point. "It's time to talk about jobs."

Obama has mocked Mitt Romney over the Sesame Street character Big Bird after the Republican said in their first debate that if elected, he would seek to cut government funding for public television.

As for binders, Obama has tweaked Romney after he said in their second debate that when he was elected governor of Massachusetts he solicited binders full of women’s resumes to make sure his administration had gender balance.

And on the issue of bayonets, when Romney pointed out in the candidates’ third debate that the navy has shrunk in ship numbers since 1917, Obama sarcastically retorted that the number of bayonets has shrunk too.

"Instead of talking about issues, the president offers petty attacks," according to the video’s text.
