Rabbi Jonathan Cahn invoked the words of George Washington to warn the D.C. elite not to abandon God when it comes to leadership.

Cahn, the best-selling author of "The Harbinger," repeated the 1789 speech the first U.S. president gave during his inauguration, warning that the nation cannot prosper if it doesn't include faith WND.com reported.

"The propitious smile of heaven can never be expected on a nation that disregards the eternal rules of order and right which heaven itself hath ordained," he said to an audience that included emcee Mike Huckabee.

"We stand tonight on Capitol Hill, in the city named after the one who gave that prophetic warning, to ask, can a nation drive out the name of God from its public square, and the word of God from its schools, and the ways of God from its culture, and still expect the smiles of God to shine upon it?

"Can the blood of 50 million unborn children cry out to heaven from this land and the smiles of heaven still remain?

"Members of Congress, can a government call evil good and good evil and forge laws that war against the laws of the Almighty and the smiles of heaven still remain?"

The remarks were made at a Washington prayer meeting hosted by Minnesota Rep. Michele Bachmann and was called "Washington: A Man of Prayer, 2014." After being sworn in at Federal Hall, Washington, on April 30, 1789, George Washington and Congress entered St. Paul’s Chapel where he offered the prayer for America.

"The voice of our first president cries out to us tonight and answers, no you cannot do so and still expect the smiles of heaven to remain on this land," Cahn said.

According to a report on Americafreedomfighters.com most Americans are offended by a liberal initiative to remove the words "Under God" from the Pledge of Allegiance, adding that only 8 percent of Americans want it out.
