A pro-life display at DePaul University consisting of about 500 blue and pink flags representing the number of abortions in the United States every day that was erected in conjunction with the 40th anniversary of Roe vs. Wade has been destroyed.
Kristopher Del Campo, a spokesperson for Young Americans for Freedom, which erected the display, told Fox News
that surveillance video shows up to 20 people destroying the flags and discarding them in trash cans.
“It is a sad thing to see that liberal minded students aren’t more tolerant, and don’t respect the views of those who respect the lives of the unborn,” Del Campo said. “It’s really discouraging and I’m saddened by that.”
Cindy Lawson, a university spokesman could not confirm the number of flags that were destroyed but did confirm the university is investigating the incident. She said while the university has a free speech policy, the policy also emphasizes tolerance of all views.
“Although we don’t expect all of our students to be of the same mind on issues, we do stress the importance of respecting others’ right to freely express their opinions on issues,” she told Fox News.
Edwards said YAF chapters had been targets of criminal acts in the past.
“We had protestors stomp on American flags during a 9-11 Never Forget project,” she said. “One student burned a flag with a lighter – in front of me. These are not isolated incidents.”
