The November congressional elections are roughly seven months away. These eight months could be among the most dangerous in U.S. history.
I'm going to assume that the Republican Party is poised to drive the out-of-control Democrats out of control of both houses of Congress in November, giving the Obamaists almost two months to push their agenda before Nancy Pelosi and soon-to-be ex-Sen. Harry Reid are deprived of their power as leaders of House and Senate.
Given the probability of that happening, you'd be foolish to believe that the Democrats in both Houses will not feverishly work to embed their quasi-socialist agenda into law before they cede control to the Republican Party. They have eight months left to do it.
That makes those months potentially the most dangerous to the stability of this Republic in our long and sometimes tumultuous history. Make no mistake about it, the Obama Democrats are determined to wreak as much damage to our Constitutional Republic as they can as long as they have the power to do so.
Case in point: the so-called Cap and Trade bill already passed by the House and awaiting action in the Senate. It is a monstrosity that would cost tens of thousands of American jobs, and billions of dollars, all in the name of safeguarding the nation from a non-existing threat: Al Gore's discredited alarm that the planet is about to be parboiled by the phantom global warming which exists solely on the computers of scientists waxing wealthy by exploiting a false alarm.
This bill needs to be tossed in the Senate's trash heap and Senate Republicans must use every weapon available to them to scuttle it.
This sort of thing places a tough burden on the GOP minority. Still badly outnumbered, they can only fight a rear-guard action, harassing and trying to outsmart the majority at every turn.
They have a solemn obligation to use every parliamentary trick in the books to place an impenetrable barrier in front of the Democrat juggernaut and their deadly agenda.
If they do, they will of course be confronted with charges that they are "the party of no" by the largely Marxist media which deliberately ignores the obligation a political party has to fight with every device available to it to prevent the opposition from enacting legislation they see as harmful to the nation and the nation's future.
They should adopt the label proudly and raise high the banner proclaiming their party's absolute determination to do everything legally and morally possible to prevent the majority from enacting and perpetuating their ultra-leftist agenda.
The GOP can do nothing less and should they fail to do so they will earn the scorn of generations to come who will groan under the burden placed upon them by this generation should we continue to allow the Congress to squander the resources of our children and their children, and generations yet to come.
On my maternal ancestor Thomas Francis Meagher's Irish Brigade Civil War battle flag was the legend "Faugh 'a Ballagh." The GOP would do well to adopt it as their own in the crucial months to come. It proclaims the defiant challenge: "Clear the Way!"
