More than a dozen of President Barack Obama's campaign staffers say they have been shut out of the president’s inaugural festivities despite their tireless, low-paid work on the campaign trail.
"It's sad that I put in my blood sweat and tears, and now I can't be a part of this," one former staffer told Buzzfeed
, which broke the story.
"It feels like staff is an afterthought and that's not what it was like during my 14 months on the campaign."
Another complained: "We worked our butts off, and I'm going to watch it on TV instead of being there," one former staffer complained. "It's a huge bummer."
Brad Woodhouse, director of communications for the Democratic National Committee, told BuzzFeed in a tweet that the staffers’ grumblings were “BS.’’
The former staffers, who demanded anonymity, told the website they were “frustrated’’ by poor communication from the Presidential Inaugural Committee, which told them of details of the festivities late in the game
“instead of giving us details on November 7th, we found out so late that it would cost me $2,000 to go to Washington for a weekend as opposed to $1,000 or less if I booked two months ago," an ex-staffer said.
Obama staffers were paid “substantially less’’ than Romney staffers in similar jobs in 2012, and many took pay cuts of around $30,000 from prior jobs, the former staffers told BuzzFeed.
In a tweet to the website, Brad Woodhouse, director of communications for the Democratic National Committee, called the staffers’ grumblings “BS.’’
