Grover Norquist, president of Americans for Tax Reform, offers a dire warning for those lawmakers who might renege on the Taxpayer Protection Pledge they signed and agree to raise taxes.

“The good news is that we haven’t had anybody break the pledge in 22 years,” he tells Newsmax TV.

“No Republican has voted for income tax increase in 22 years. I don’t think any Republican’s going to vote for a tax increase at this point.

“If one did, there’s one example they could point to and that’s when George Herbert Walker Bush, Bush 41, ran for president promising to take the pledge. He didn’t keep his word, he broke his word to the American people and even though he’d had a very successful presidency it cost him the White House and he was defeated in the next election.

“Why? People don’t like their taxes raised and they don’t like being lied to.”
