Nine people were shot near a street junction in downtown Miami early on Tuesday, police said.

A local CBS affiliate reported one of the victims had died and another person was in critical condition after being shot in the Florida city's Liberty City neighborhood.

A Miami Police Department dispatcher told Reuters nine people had been shot, but declined to provide further details.

The Miami Herald newspaper said 10 people were hit in gunfire at the intersection of northwest 12th Avenue and 65th Street.

The circumstances of the shooting were unclear.
