The choice of Ryan gives Republicans a true conservative to support, talk radio host Rush Limbaugh said on his show Monday, Politico
“We now have somebody on the ticket who’s us,” Limbaugh explained. “[Somebody] who can explain all of this, who believes all of this in his heart, in his soul, and he can do it with optimism and a smile on his face.”
The presence of the House Budget Committee chairman will turn the focus of the contest squarely toward the issues, which means the public will have a closer look at President Barack Obama’s record, Limbaugh said.
“When the vice president [Ryan] starts dismantling the president of the United States and his policies and his ideas and what they have wrought, that’s something they’re going to have to react to,” Limbaugh said. “They’re going to have to come back at some point with some substance. And when they do that, they don’t have substance on their side. When they do that, that brings Obama’s record to the fore.”
Romney himself gained momentum after announcing his choice of Ryan, Limbaugh said. “The pick signals a decision was made somewhere that . . . we’re going to go head-first, going to take it straight to them, and we’re going to articulate exactly what we believe,” he said. “The presence of Paul on stage with Romney has elevated Romney . . . Romney’s a new guy.”
