Rep. Peter King believes New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie should try to mend fences with Sen. Rand Paul of Kentucky — even though he believes it was Paul who triggered the testy war of words between the two.

"It's up to Gov. Christie,' King, a New York Republican, told Dom Giordano, guest host of "The Steve Malzberg Show" on Newsmax TV.

"Rand Paul did go after Gov. Christie in a way [with] that 'gimme, gimme' thing."

Story continues below.

Paul fired away at Christie earlier this week, calling his fellow Republican part of a greedy group seeking money for his state at the expense of the federal budget.

Christie had criticized Paul for bringing pork barrel spending to his own home state while voting against aid for Hurricane Sandy victims in New Jersey and other areas of the northeast.

But Paul raged on CNN: "Gov. Christie and others have been part of this gimme, gimme, gimme — gimme all this money."

He also accused Christie of hurting the Republican Party.

Paul has since offered to meet Christie for a "beer summit" and bury the hatchet — an offer the Garden State’s top lawmaker has rejected.

King said he will not order Christie to make peace with Paul.

"I’m not going to tell Chris Christie what to do. He and I have had occasional differences, not really on substance, more on personality," King told Giordano.

"Maybe we're too much alike. But this is a good debate to have and Chris Christie is a tough guy and I'm sure things will work out."
