Issa Issues Subpoena for Obamacare Files

Darrell Issa, chairman of the House Oversight Committee, issued a subpoena for Obamacare documents on Friday after he said the White House failed to release them, The Hill reports.

The documents are related to a program called CO-OPs, which stands for consumer oriented and operated plans, and is intended to help nonprofit health plans.

The program was created under the Affordable Care Act to loan money to CO-OPs, but Republicans fear some of the money might never be paid back because of the financial situation of some of the borrowers.

The committee began its probe of the program in October, and stepped it up in March, The Hill reported. Repeated requests for the documents have gone unanswered, Issa said.

The panel also requested information from Health and Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelius.

"We remain concerned that taxpayers will lose a significant amount of money awarded through the CO-OP program," Issa and other committee members wrote to Sebelius.
