Homeland Security is gearing up for heavy action ahead of three major events in the coming months, according to RT.com: the GOP and Democratic conventions and next year’s presidential inauguration.

The agency has ordered masses of riot gear equipment to prepare for potential domestic riots at the events, RT.com reported.

The Department of Homeland Security submitted a rushed solicitation to the Federal Business Opportunities site on Wednesday, RT.com reported, The site is a portal for Federal government procurement requisitions over $25,000. Part of the solicitation reads, “The objective of this effort is to procure riot gear to prepare for the 2012 Democratic and Republican National Conventions, the 2013 Presidential Inauguration and other future similar activities,” according to RT.com, a Russian English-language news channel which brings the Russian view on global news.

DHS is ordering about 150 sets of riot helmets, thigh and groin protectors, hard-shell shin guards, and other riot gear for Federal Protective Service agents tasked with protecting federal property and grounds, according to the website.

The agency is preparing for demonstrators who will travel to the Republican National Convention from August 27-30 in Tampa and the Democratic National Convention from September 3-6 in Charlotte.
