Oregon Healthcare Website Reported to FBI for Possible Fraud

Wednesday, 05 Feb 2014 10:07 PM

By Greg Richter

Cover Oregon, the state health exchange website portal that still doesn't function, has been reported to the FBI for investigation of possible fraud.

Former Republican Rep. Patrick Sheehan told Fox News Channel's "On the Record with Greta Van Susteren" on Wednesday that he gave information to the FBI more than a year ago after someone with inside information gave it to him.

Sheehan was on a panel investigating why the website wasn't working as intended. He said the information he received was so serious he reported it to federal investigators.

According to the allegations, project managers for the site didn't know how to build a health insurance website but did know how to build fake pages to show the Department of Health and Human Services in order to make HHS officials think they were meeting deadlines.

In fact, none of the deadlines was met and the website still does not work. National Review Online's John Fund recently told Newsmax the site is in such disrepair it may have to be shut down.

The site was initially touted as a leader among state exchanges, and received $220 million in federal funding.

"They were touting this as, this was going to work. We're going to be first, we're going to be best," Sheehan said. "And, really, it was just Baghdad Bob."
