A lawmaker in New York State told the
New York Post that he is getting death threats because of his stance on the natural gas “hydrofracking” process.
State Senator Thomas Libous, a Republican, said environmental radicals who oppose the gas drilling process known as hydrofracking have threatened him. Libous is a strong supporter of the technique.
“There have been repeated threats to me of bodily harm,’’ Libous told The Post. “There have been calls saying, ‘We know where you live,’ ‘We’ll come to your house’ — that kind of stuff.”
Libous also told the Post that environmental activists have threatened local officials throughout the New York’s Southern Tier region along the Pennsylvania border, where huge deposits of natural gas are located.
The hydrofracking process involves injecting high volumes of water, sand, and chemicals into the ground to release natural gas found in the earth. It allows drilling companies to extract natural gas from shale reserves.
