Former President Bill Clinton is coming out strongly in favor of gun control, lamenting the proliferation of high-capacity weapons in a speech Wednesday.
“I grew up in this hunting culture, but this is nuts,” he told the International Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas,
Politico reports. “Why does anybody need a . . . 30-round clip for a gun?”
In 1994 Clinton signed an assault weapons prohibition that lasted until 2004.
“Why does anybody need one of those things that carries 100 bullets? The guy in Colorado had one of those,” Clinton said, referring to last year’s movie theater murders in Aurora, Col. “Half of all mass killings in the U.S. occurred since the assault weapons ban expired in 2005.”
