Clinton to Ring Bell at Stock Exchange to Mark 9/11

WASHINGTON — Secretary of State Hillary Clinton will ring the opening bell at the New York Stock Exchange on Friday, in a remembrance of the victims of the September 11 attacks, the State Department said.

Joining her will be a who's who of city notables on duty 10 years ago when the twin towers of the World Trade Center collapsed in the heart of New York's financial district.

The same group was with Clinton, then a US senator for New York, when she rang the opening bell at the stock exchange on September 17, 2001, the first day of trading after the devastating attacks by Al-Qaeda militants.

Among them will be former mayor Rudolph Giuliani, the city's police commissioner, former chiefs of the fire department and emergency management office, the former governor, and the former heads of the exchange and the Securities and Exchange Commission, the State Department said.

They will "remember the victims of 9/11, their families and loved ones, and those who aided the rescue and recovery effort," it said.

Before the opening bell, there will be a moment of silence followed by the singing of "God Bless America" by a US Marine Corps major.
