The idea voiced by some congressional Republicans to oppose a government funding bill if Democrats don't agree to defund the Affordable Care Act is a bad one, says, Sen. Richard Burr.
"I think it's the dumbest idea I've ever heard," the North Carolina Republican told journalist Todd Zwilich Thursday
"Listen, as long as Barack Obama is president, the Affordable Care Act is going to be law. I think some of these guys need to understand that if you shut down the federal government, you better have a specific reason to do it that's achievable."
Defunding Obamacare isn't achievable through a government shutdown, Burr insisted.
"At some point you're going to open the federal government back up, and President Obama won't have signed a dissolution of the Affordable Care Act."
Twelve GOP senators led by Mike Lee of Utah sent a letter to Majority Leader Harry Reid Thursday stating they won't vote for any continuing resolution to fund the government that includes money for Obamacare
In the House, 66 Republicans are supporting a campaign by Rep. Mark Meadows, R-N.C., to prevent party leadership from bringing any bill up for consideration that includes funding for Obamacare.
