Former Vice President Joe Biden and his wife Jill have signed a deal to write a total of three books, Politico reported on Wednesday.

The agreement with Flatiron Books, which is a division of Macmillan Publishers, is for the former vice president to write two books, while his wife will write one.

Joe Biden's first book will concentrate on the death of his son Beau and his subsequent decision not to run for president.

"We're so deeply honored to be the publisher of these books by Vice President and Dr. Biden," Flatiron Books president and publisher Bob Miller said in a statement. "The vice president's book promises to give us all a deeper understanding of recent political history, but it will clearly also be a book about the values that have given the vice president strength in both good times and bad."

Other details were not released, such as the value of the agreement or the focus of the other two books.

Last month Biden said he believes that he could have beaten President Donald Trump in the election and regrets not being president, The Washington Post reported.

Speaking at Colgate University, Biden said that he had "lost part of my soul" when his son died and that he was no up to the commitment it takes for such an undertaking.

"Do I regret not being president? Yes. Do I regret not running for president, in light of everything that was going on in my life at the time? No," Biden explained.
