President Barack Obama gave a “harshly ideological, aggressively partisan speech” aimed at pleasing liberals, but ignored the inaugural tradition of uplifting the country, the president of Americans for Prosperity said Monday.
Tim Phillips said in a statement that the organization will work to fight Obama’s big spending, big government ideas that he said have not helped to move the country forward in the last four years.
“For generations, presidents have used inaugural addresses to unite the nation by reaffirming our democratic traditions and touching on broad aspiration themes,” Phillips wrote. “Disappointingly, President Obama chose to deliver a harshly ideological, aggressively partisan speech more appropriate for the campaign trail than for the solemn occasion of his inaugural ceremony.”

Leading with global warming, Phillips wrote that the speech sounded like a “liberal laundry list” of issues that have not helped the country or economy to get moving. He said, specifically, that environmental extremism has been rejected by Americans in the past and he expects that it will again - with AFP leading the charge.
“Americans for Prosperity will certainly be in the vanguard of the effort to oppose the President’s big government policies that spend too much and regulate too much and as a consequence are failing to get our economy moving again,” he wrote.
