Arrests Made after Ariz Anti-Wall Street Protests

Sunday, 16 Oct 2011 06:24 AM

PHOENIX (AP) — Police have made arrests following anti-Wall Street protests in Phoenix and Tucson.

Reporters and protesters saw an estimated 40 people detained around midnight Saturday at Margaret T. Hance Park just north of downtown Phoenix.

Officers there declined to comment, and official spokesmen did not immediately return calls.

The arrests came hours after anti-Wall Street protesters gathered in the two Arizona cities as part of a series of protests across the country against financial institutions.

In Tucson, about 100 miles southeast of Phoenix, some protesters were arrested after they remained in Military Plaza Park after the 10:30 p.m. closing time, police spokesman Matt Ronstadt said.

He did not provide a number, but said those arrested were issued citations and released.

PHOENIX (AP) — Police have made arrests during an anti-Wall Street Protest in Phoenix.

Reporters and protesters on the scene saw an estimated 40 people detained around midnight Saturday at Margaret T. Hance Park just north of downtown Phoenix.

Officers there declined to comment, and official spokesmen did not immediately return calls.

About 100 helmeted officers, many carrying batons, formed a line around 11 p.m. PDT and ordered scores of protesters to leave.

A core group of protesters sat on the ground and were slowly escorted away by police to waiting paddy wagons.

The urban newspaper Downtown Devil reports that police left the park about 1:30 a.m.
