White House: Arrests Will Not Hurt US-Russia Ties

Tuesday, 29 Jun 2010 04:23 PM

The White House says the arrests of 11 people in an alleged Russian spy ring won't affect the relationship between the United States and Russia.

White House spokesman Robert Gibbs said President Barack Obama was "fully and appropriately" informed about the matter.

Gibbs said the move was a law enforcement matter — and that law enforcement "acted appropriately."

Obama and Russian President Dmitry Medvedev have hailed what they called a "reset" relationship between their nations.

Russian leadership has expressed frustration about the arrests and called them unfounded. Gibbs said relations will not take a hit.
