A federal judge has refused to dismiss a civil lawsuit accusing former Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld of responsibility for U.S. forces' alleged torture of two Americans contractors in Iraq.

U.S. District Judge Wayne R. Andersen's Friday ruling didn't say the contractors had proven any claims. But it did say their allegations warrant hearing evidence of exactly what happened.

Donald Vance and Nathan Ertel say Rumsfeld is personally responsible for torture methods allegedly used against them after they reported illegal activities by their company.

Justice Department spokesman Charles Miller says the department is reviewing the ruling.
