PEARL HARBOR, Hawaii (AP) — About 120 survivors of the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor are expected to return to the base this week to attend a ceremony in remembrance of those who died 69 years ago.

The Navy and the National Park Service are jointly hosting Tuesday's event at a grassy site across the harbor from the sunken hull of the USS Arizona, where 1,177 lives were lost.

In all, some 2,400 troops were killed in the attack.

Durrell Conner plans to attend with his wife, daughters and grandchildren.

The 92-year-old recalls wrapping Christmas presents on the USS California the morning of Dec. 7, 1941 when he saw an airplane with "the red emblem of the Japanese" approaching low and drop a torpedo.

His battleship shook like an earthquake.
