Republican efforts to enact a balanced budget amendment to the Constitution have hit a road block. Senate GOP leaders have decided the idea should have unanimous Republican support before they advance it, The Hill
|Sen. Mitch McConnell
Some conservative senators aren’t too happy about the decision and question whether Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell is really committed to the proposal. "If McConnell was really serious about this, he would jump on the bill and co-sponsor it himself," a source told The Hill. The source pointed out that McConnell hasn’t yet signed on to the amendment.
But other Republicans said that Senate leaders and amendment supporters agreed at a meeting Wednesday that the amendment shouldn’t move forward until all Republicans back it.
