PLACERVILLE, Calif. (AP) — Authorities are searching for a gunman who shot an official at a Northern California elementary school.

Sheriff's Sgt. Jim Byers says a man shot a school official Wednesday at Louisiana Schnell School in Placerville, about 50 miles east of Sacramento. The man fled on foot.

Byers says no children are injured, and the school remains on lockdown.

Byers says it's not clear what prompted the shooting.

He says about 50 officers from various law enforcement agencies are participating in a manhunt for the suspect, who has not been identified. No further details were available on the official.
