The Obamas have purchased a home in tony Rancho Mirage, California, the Los Angeles Times
The $4.25 million home is in the same gated community where Frank Sinatra, Bob Hope, and Bing Crosby once lived. The White House has denied reports that the first family is the buyer, but real estate agents told the newspaper that the Obamas are in escrow on the 8,232-square-foot home.
President Barack Obama has visited the area three times over the past year, including over Father’s Day weekend.
The estate, located in the Thunderbird Heights gated community, is the former home of novelist Joseph Wambaugh, according to USA Today,
and close to the home of Michael S. Smith, an interior designer who worked on the Oval Office.
The contemporary four-bedroom, 4.5-bath compound sits atop 3.29 acres and has a main house, built in 1993, with a gym, a pool with a 20-foot waterfall, a rock lagoon, two spas, a misting system and a putting green with a sand trap, according to the Times. A guest house has three bedrooms and three bathrooms.
"The property last sold a decade ago, public records show, and had been listed eight years ago for as much as $12.5 million," the Times reports.
It will be a second home for the Obamas. Since 2005, they have owned a Georgian brick mansion in Chicago,
according to ABC News, which they purchased for $1.65 million. It’s located in the Kenwood neighborhood, adjacent to Hyde Park.
