A middle school teacher was killed in a school shooting Monday morning in Sparks, Nev., east of Reno.
A second person killed "appears to be a student/suspect in this case," Washoe County School District Police Chief Mike Mieras said. The shooter apparently killed himself, Sparks City Manager Shawn Carey told the Reno Gazette-Journal.
Two students remain hospitalized.
A Sparks police dispatcher says the call came in at 7:16 a.m. Monday.
School district police didn't immediately offer details of the identities of the dead.
Washoe County School District spokesman Charles Rahn says the middle school and the adjacent Agnes Risley Elementary School were evacuated to Sparks High School.
“I was deeply saddened to learn of the horrific shooting at Sparks Middle School this morning," Nevada Gov. Brian Sandoval said in a statement. "My administration is receiving regular updates and the Nevada Highway Patrol is assisting at the scene.
"Kathleen and I extend our thoughts and prayers to the victims and those affected by these tragic events.”
