Michelle Obama and Jill Biden are bringing relief to millions of people who care for wounded service members and veterans.

They're being joined Friday at the White House by former first lady Rosalynn Carter and former Sen. Elizabeth Dole to announce new private and public sector pledges to help the country's 5.5 million military caregivers. The figure comes from a report commissioned by Dole's foundation and made public last week.

Mrs. Obama and Vice President Joe Biden's wife began a nationwide effort in 2011 to support military families.

Dole is married to former Republican Sen. Bob Dole of Kansas, who was seriously wounded in World War II.

Carter is the wife of former Democratic President Jimmy Carter. She has a longstanding interest in family caregiving and mental health.
